PATRIOTIC BITCH by Alanna Ubach
Directed by IAN McCRUDDEN
Alanna Ubach is the mad hatter of my ideal tea party. Her writing and acting tickles and probes, a potent combination of the superbly observed and supremely imagined. In PATRIOTIC BITCH she pushes the boundary of the one-woman-show by eschewing altogether the topical or personal narrative. Indeed she satirizes both while at the same time threading the lives of seven unique female voices: all women on the verge of a nervous breakdown, an emotional epiphany, or both. The filament that binds them is the very formation of their neurosis: their identity and assimilation into the grand American salad. Watch with Yolanda and bear witness to these "women up close and far far away" in the reflection of a bathroom mirror, through blue TV screen light, refracted in whispers of color: red, white, and blue.
